Garden Art Swap

Calling all thrifty gardeners!  Why not trade your unused garden art with other members and area gardeners?  Arrive promptly at 10a.m., bring your “stuff” to the Bus Parking Area of the parking lot.  It will be appraised based on its original value.  You will receive a “chit” which you can exchange for new “treasures.”   Everything must be clean and in good repair. No tools and nothing over 50 pounds, please. What’s accepted? Statues, whirligigs, containers of all sizes and designs, gnomes, chimes, tuteurs, signs, bird houses, bird feeders and yes, pink flamingoes. Complete guidelines for the sale can be found at www.arboretumfriends.org.

Focus on Scotland Speaker Day

$8 ($5 for members of The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum)

Scotland’s legendary beauty is brought to you in two engaging 45-minute long talks. The first, “Gardens of Scotland,” is presented by Sue Acheson, President of The Friends of The Frelinghuysen Arboretum. Sue’s talks always feature spectacular images and her horticulturally- informed commentary. The second, “Take the High Road to Scotland,” is presented by Susan Cloyd from C.I.E. Tours International. Susan is a native of the British Isles, returns there frequently, and is well familiar with her subject. A lovely spread of Scottish food specialties will follow— compliments of The Scottish Gourmet USA. To register, please call (973) 326-7603.

$7 per person (ages 5+ please)

Ahoy there lads and lassies! Scotsman Robert Lewis Stevenson wrote Treasure Island in 1883 on an island off the coast of Scotland. We’ll be showing the modern Muppets version which has plenty of pirates, buried treasure, and adventure, and we will serve butterscotch sundaes and oatmeal cookies. Wear your pirate gear or prepare to walk the plank. To register, please call (973) 326-7603.
